Alykes is a village on the north-east coast of Zakynthos, about 18 km from the airport, a drive of around 30 minutes. The route follows the coast road north through Tsilivi and Alykanas. The road is two lanes and gets busy in July and August behind tour buses. The village is near the salt pans that gave it the name, and lies on the road to the Blue Caves and the ferry for Kefalonia.
Alykes has a long sandy beach, a main street with tavernas and small shops, and a harbour with fishing boats. Hotels and apartments are along the beach road and in the neighbouring Alykanas. The ferry to Pesada in Kefalonia leaves from Agios Nikolaos port further north, and Shipwreck Beach and the Blue Caves are further north-west. The car can stop at the hotel entrances or on the seafront road. The village is quiet in spring and autumn.
