Getting from Zaragoza Airport (ZAZ) to Calatayud takes about 1h by car on an empty road (60–80 min in heavy traffic) over 76 km via A-2 and N-2a. Our private transfer costs €140 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €200 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals hall of the passenger terminal at Zaragoza Airport, after you collect your baggage, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Calatayud lies about 75 km south-west of the airport, in the valley of the Jalón river. The road leaves the airport area towards the A-2, the toll-free Autovía del Nordeste between Zaragoza and Madrid, and follows it past La Almunia de Doña Godina and the vineyards of the Valdejalón and Calatayud wine areas. The last stretch runs between dry, eroded hills before the town appears below its castle ridge. The A-2 carries heavy goods traffic, but jams are uncommon outside holiday weekends.
Calatayud's old quarter climbs from the Jalón valley towards the remains of its Moorish fortresses. The brick tower of the collegiate church of Santa María, part of the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon World Heritage site, rises above the narrow streets around Plaza de España, and San Pedro de los Francos stands nearby. The railway station is on the edge of the town centre. Calatayud is the usual stop on the way to the Monasterio de Piedra park, about 27 km further south.
Public transport instead: Consorcio de Transportes del Área de Zaragoza (CTAZ) bus 505 Zaragoza - Aeropuerto from Zaragoza Airport terminal to Zaragoza-Delicias intermodal station (train and coach station), timetable based on the airport's flight schedule. Renfe train Zaragoza - Calatayud (high-speed and regional services on the Madrid line) from Zaragoza-Delicias station to Calatayud station, 1 change. No direct public transport from the airport to Calatayud: take bus 505 to Zaragoza-Delicias, then a Renfe train to Calatayud.
