Trnava is a historic town north-east of Bratislava, about 47 km by road from the airport. From the airport the route joins the D1 motorway, which leads north-east past Senec straight to Trnava; motorway use in Slovakia requires an electronic vignette. The motorway is the main road between Bratislava and the north of the country, so heavy traffic and roadworks can slow it at peak times, especially on Friday afternoons.
Trnava's walled old town is known as Little Rome for its many churches. Its centre is Trinity Square (Trojičné námestie) with the Town Tower and the theatre, linked by the pedestrian Hlavná street to the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist and the old university quarter. Large parts of the historic centre are pedestrian, so cars stop at the edge of the old walls; the railway and bus stations are a short walk away.
Public transport instead: Dopravný podnik Bratislava (DPB), IDS BK bus 61 (night: N61) from Bratislava Airport, stop on the approach road in front of the Departures terminal to Bratislava Main Railway Station (Hlavná železničná stanica), day line 61, night line N61. Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK) train regional and fast trains Bratislava – Trnava from Bratislava hlavná stanica to Trnava, 1 change. No direct public transport from the airport to Trnava: bus 61 to Bratislava Main Railway Station, then a ZSSK train to Trnava.
