Siófok is the largest resort on the southern shore of Lake Balaton, south-west of Budapest. From the airport the route joins the M0 ring road around the south of the city and then follows the M7 motorway towards Lake Balaton, past Székesfehérvár, about 135 km in total. Hungarian motorways need an electronic vignette, which applies to both the M0 and the M7. On Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings in summer, the M7 between Budapest and the lake is often heavily loaded.
Siófok stretches along the lake for several kilometres. The centre lies around the water tower and Fő tér, a short walk from the harbour, the marina and the pier for lake boats. East of the centre the Gold Coast (Aranypart) and to the west the Silver Coast (Ezüstpart) are lined with hotels, apartments and grassy beaches with shallow water. Cars can reach most hotels directly, while the promenade along the shore is for walkers. The town is busiest in July and August, when beach clubs and festivals draw large crowds.
Public transport instead: BKK bus 100E Airport Express from Liszt Ferenc International Airport, arrivals level between Terminals 2A and 2B to Deák Ferenc tér (stops also at Kálvin tér and Astoria), HUF 2500.00 single ticket, around the clock; every 5-10 minutes during the day, every 20-40 minutes at night. MÁV-START train Budapest-Déli - Siófok (southern Balaton line) from Budapest-Déli railway station to Siófok, 2 changes. No direct public transport from the airport to Lake Balaton. Travellers first reach central Budapest (100E Airport Express or bus 200E with metro) and then take a train from Budapest-Déli to Siófok.
