Getting from Cardiff Airport (CWL) to Penarth takes about 25 min by car on an empty road (25–35 min in heavy traffic) over 20 km via B4267. Our private transfer costs €65 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €95 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the public arrivals area on the ground floor of the single terminal at Cardiff Airport, just after baggage reclaim and customs, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Penarth is a Victorian seaside town on the headland just south of Cardiff Bay, about 18 km east of the airport. The road route runs along the coast of the Vale of Glamorgan through Barry and continues on the A4055 and the B4267 past Sully and Lavernock, avoiding the centre of Cardiff. An alternative goes via the A4232 and the Cardiff Bay barrage area. Streets in the town are residential and fairly narrow, but most addresses can be reached directly by car.
The Esplanade runs along the seafront below the cliffs, with the restored Victorian pier and its pavilion as the main landmark. Above it, the town centre around Windsor Road and Albert Road has shops, cafes and the station for trains to Cardiff. To the north, Penarth Marina sits beside the Cardiff Bay barrage, and a walking and cycling path across the barrage leads to Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay. Cosmeston Lakes Country Park lies at the southern edge of the town.
Public transport instead: Adventure Travel bus 905 (airport shuttle) from Cardiff Airport terminal to Rhoose (Cardiff International Airport) station. Transport for Wales train Vale of Glamorgan line (towards Cardiff) from Rhoose (Cardiff International Airport) station to Cardiff Central, 1 change. Transport for Wales train Penarth line (Cardiff Central - Penarth) from Rhoose (Cardiff International Airport) station to Penarth, 2 changes. No direct public transport from Cardiff Airport to Penarth: 905 shuttle bus to Rhoose station, train to Cardiff Central, then the branch train to Penarth.
