Meeting point: The driver waits in the public arrivals area on the ground floor of the single terminal at Cardiff Airport, just after baggage reclaim and customs, holding a sign with your name. Flight tracking is included, the first hour after landing is free waiting time, and the driver carries your bags to the car.
Swansea is the second city of Wales, about 60 km west of the airport at the far end of Swansea Bay. The usual route heads north from Rhoose on country roads to join the M4 motorway near Pencoed, then follows it west past Bridgend and Port Talbot, where the road runs between the hills and the steelworks by the sea. The M4 here has no tolls. The last section leaves the motorway and follows the main road along the Tawe valley or the bay into the city centre.
The city centre spreads around the ruins of Swansea Castle, the covered Swansea Market and the shopping streets of Oxford Street and the Kingsway. South of it, the Maritime Quarter has a large marina lined with apartments, the National Waterfront Museum and the start of the seafront promenade. The promenade runs for several kilometres around the bay to Mumbles, a seaside village with a pier and a lighthouse, and beyond it lies the Gower peninsula with its beaches. Swansea railway station is on the northern side of the centre.
Public transport instead: Adventure Travel bus 905 (airport shuttle) from Cardiff Airport terminal to Rhoose (Cardiff International Airport) station. Transport for Wales train Vale of Glamorgan line (towards Bridgend) from Rhoose (Cardiff International Airport) station to Bridgend, 1 change. Transport for Wales train South Wales main line (Bridgend - Swansea) from Rhoose (Cardiff International Airport) station to Swansea, 2 changes. No direct public transport from Cardiff Airport to Swansea: 905 shuttle bus to Rhoose station, train to Bridgend, then a train west to Swansea.
