Sidi Mahrez Beach is the northern end of the Djerba hotel zone, on the north-east coast in the Midoun district. From the airport the road first runs east on RR 109 to Houmt Souk, then follows the coastal road from Houmt Souk towards the tourist zone, about 25 km in total. The drive crosses flat countryside with palm and olive groves and scattered menzels, the traditional fortified farmhouses of the island. The road is not tolled.
Large beach hotels stand one after another along the shore, each with its own access road off the main tourist-zone road, so cars can drive up to the reception. The white Sidi Mahrez Mosque stands among palms close to the beach. Further east the hotel strip continues towards the Taguermess lighthouse at the island's eastern cape, while the town of Midoun, with its shops and market, is a few kilometres inland. The beach season runs from late spring to autumn.
Public transport: There is no direct public transport from the airport to Sidi Mahrez Beach. The only bus listed by the airport operator OACA runs from the airport to Houmt Souk (1 TND, five departures a day); onward regional buses leave from the Houmt Souk bus station.
