Palombaggia is a long beach of white sand south of Porto-Vecchio, backed by umbrella pines and red granite rocks and facing the small Cerbicale islands. From the airport the route follows the D859 towards Porto-Vecchio and, before the town, turns south onto the local road through the hills of the maquis to the coast. The last stretch is narrow and winding, and on summer days it is busy with cars looking for space in the beach car parks.
The beach runs for a couple of kilomètres, with Tamaricciu at its northern end and the coves of Acciaghju to the south; Santa Giulia lies a little further south. Hotels, residences and villas are hidden in the pines on the slopes behind the sand, reached by private lanes, so the driver goes to the entrance of the accommodation or to the beach car park nearest the chosen section. The beach is at its busiest in July and August; outside the summer season most beach restaurants close.
Public transport: No public bus serves Palombaggia from the airport; the airport shuttles end at Porto-Vecchio bus station, about 10 km north of the beach.
