Getting from Genoa Airport (GOA) to Santa Margherita Ligure takes about 40 min by car on an empty road (40–55 min in heavy traffic) over 41 km via A12. Our private transfer costs €140 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €200 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the arrivals area on the ground floor of the single passenger terminal of Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport, after baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Santa Margherita Ligure is a resort town on the Gulf of Tigullio, on the eastern side of the Portofino promontory. The drive leaves Genoa on the A10 and A12 toll motorways, which run through a long series of tunnels and viaducts above the Riviera di Levante, and exits at Rapallo; from there a short coastal road leads into Santa Margherita. On summer weekends traffic on the A12 and on the coast road can be heavy. The town also serves as the main gateway to Portofino by road and by boat.
The heart of Santa Margherita is the seafront around the marina and Piazza Vittorio Veneto, where boats leave for Portofino and San Fruttuoso. Hotels line the promenade towards Portofino and the streets behind the harbour. Villa Durazzo, with its gardens, stands on the hill above the centre next to the small sixteenth-century castle. The railway station sits higher up on the hillside, about ten minutes on foot from the waterfront, and the beaches are mostly small coves and bathing establishments along the coast road.
Public transport instead: AMT Genova bus Volabus from Genoa Airport, Arrivals stop to Via Milano / Ferry Terminal, Genova Piazza Principe, Via XX Settembre / Piazza De Ferrari, Genova Brignole — about 30 min, €10.00 single ticket, daily. Genova Airlink (AMT / Trenitalia) bus Airlink from Genoa Airport, outside the Arrivals area (ground floor) to Genova Sestri Ponente Aeroporto railway station, €2.20 single ticket, every 15 min, 06:00-22:00, 1 change.
