Bled lies north-west of the airport, at the foot of the Julian Alps, about 36 km by road. The route joins the Gorenjska motorway towards Kranj and continues past Radovljica to the Lesce exit, from where a short local road leads to the lake. Motorways in Slovenia require an electronic vignette. In summer and at weekends the roads around the lake and the parking areas in Bled can be busy.
Lake Bled is known for its small island with the Church of the Assumption, reached by traditional pletna boats, and for Bled Castle on a cliff above the northern shore. A footpath of about 6 km runs around the lake, and the Vintgar Gorge lies a few kilometres north of the town. Hotels are spread along the lakeshore and in the town centre on the eastern side of the lake, and parking near the shore is limited in the main season.
