Ljubljana Airport (Jože Pučnik Airport) is at Brnik, on the Gorenjska plain north of the capital, and the drive to Prešeren Square in the city centre is about 29 km. The route crosses the plain south towards the city and joins the Ljubljana ring road before entering the centre; part of the way can also follow the Gorenjska motorway. Motorways in Slovenia require an electronic vignette. Weekday morning and late-afternoon traffic on the ring road and the main arteries into the centre is the usual cause of delays.
The historic centre of Ljubljana lies along the Ljubljanica river below the Castle Hill. Prešeren Square, the Triple Bridge, the Dragon Bridge, the Central Market and Congress Square are within a few minutes' walk of each other. Much of the old centre is a pedestrian zone, so cars stop on the nearest street open to traffic at its edge. Many hotels are in the streets around the pedestrian zone and near the main bus and railway stations, a short walk north of the centre.
