Getting from Marrakech Airport (RAK) to Agafay Desert takes about 30 min by car on an empty road (30–40 min in heavy traffic) over 22 km via RR212. Our private transfer costs €30 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €45 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the public arrivals area of the terminal your flight lands at, just after passport control, baggage reclaim and customs, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
The Agafay Desert is a stony desert of bare hills and plateaus south-west of Marrakech, with the High Atlas visible on clear days. It has no sand dunes, but many desert camps and lodges with tents. From the airport the route heads south-west on the regional road RR212, the road towards Amizmiz, which leaves the city quickly and runs through farmland and small villages before the landscape turns dry and hilly. The main camp area is about 20 to 30 km from the airport, depending on the camp.
The camps are scattered over a wide area, and several of them are reached by unpaved tracks branching off the tarmac road; most camps give guests a meeting point or exact GPS location in advance. Camel rides, quad and buggy trips start from the camps, and the Lalla Takerkoust reservoir lies at the southern edge of the desert, near the village of the same name. Nights in Agafay are much colder than in the city, especially in winter, and the light at sunset is the main reason many visitors stay overnight.
Public transport: No public transport serves the desert camps of Agafay; they are reached by road only.
