Cesenatico is a seaside town about thirty kilometres north-west of the airport, in the province of Forlì-Cesena. The usual route skirts Rimini on the SS16 Adriatica and continues north past Bellaria-Igea Marina, San Mauro Mare and Gatteo Mare, crossing the Rubicon river on the way; the A14 motorway (toll) is an alternative when the coastal road is busy. In July and August the stretch through the resorts can be slow at weekends.
The heart of Cesenatico is the Porto Canale Leonardesco, the canal port associated with Leonardo da Vinci, lined with old houses and moored historic sailing boats of the floating Maritime Museum. The streets along the canal are largely pedestrian, so the driver stops at the nearest access road. Hotels spread along the seafront to Valverde and Villamarina in the south and Zadina and Ponente in the north, most of them reachable by car. The railway station lies a short distance inland from the canal.
Public transport instead: Start Romagna bus 9 from Rimini Airport (stop in front of the terminal) to Rimini railway station / Arco d'Augusto, €2.00 single ticket. Trenitalia Tper train Regionale Rimini - Ravenna from Rimini railway station to Cesenatico railway station, 1 change. No direct public transport from Rimini Airport to Cesenatico: take Start Romagna line 9 to Rimini railway station, then a regional train on the Rimini - Ravenna line.
