Getting from Southampton Airport (SOU) to Portsmouth takes about 25 min by car on an empty road (25–35 min in heavy traffic) over 34 km via M27. Our private transfer costs €90 for a car with 1–3 passengers or €130 for a van with 4–8 — the vehicle price you see is the price you pay at booking.
On arrival: The driver waits in the main terminal concourse at the arrivals hall exit, after immigration, baggage reclaim and customs, holding a sign with your name. If the flight is late, the driver adjusts to the real landing time; 60 minutes of waiting are included and help with the luggage is part of the service.
Portsmouth lies on Portsea Island, about 34 km east of the airport. The road runs along the M27 motorway past Hedge End and Fareham, then onto the M275 spur that crosses onto the island and leads straight to the city centre and the ferry port, with no tolls. The M27 is one of the busiest roads on the south coast and slows at peak hours, especially around the Fareham junctions, and traffic into Portsmouth builds when large ferries arrive or depart and on summer weekends.
Most visitors head for the harbour side of the island. The Historic Dockyard with HMS Victory and the Mary Rose Museum sits by Portsmouth Harbour station, Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower are a few minutes' walk south, and Old Portsmouth and the Southsea seafront continue further along the shore. The international ferry port for France and Spain is at the northern end of the city just off the M275, while the Isle of Wight car ferries leave from Gunwharf. Cars can reach the dockyard gate, Gunwharf and the ferry terminals directly.
Public transport instead: South Western Railway train from Southampton Airport Parkway to Portsmouth — about 1h. There is no frequent direct link from the airport to Portsmouth: the airport lists a rail journey of about 60 minutes from Southampton Airport Parkway, and the connection depends on the timetable of the day, so check it before travelling.
