Winchester from Southampton Airport (SOU) by private transfer: €65 per car (1–3 people) or €95 per van (4–8), fixed per vehicle and identical to the checkout price. On the road it is 19 km via M3, roughly 15 min when traffic is light and 15–25 min when it is not.
Meeting point: The driver waits in the main terminal concourse at the arrivals hall exit, after immigration, baggage reclaim and customs, holding a sign with your name. Flight tracking is included, the first hour after landing is free waiting time, and the driver carries your bags to the car.
Winchester, the former capital of Wessex and the county town of Hampshire, lies about 19 km north of the airport. The usual route joins the M3 motorway near Chandler's Ford and runs north past the Twyford Down cutting before leaving at the junction for the city, so most of the trip is on motorway and there are no tolls. Traffic builds on the M3 at peak hours and on the narrow approach roads into the centre, where the one-way system around the High Street can be slow on Saturdays and during events such as the Christmas market at the cathedral.
The centre of Winchester is compact. The cathedral and its close sit just south of the High Street, the Great Hall with King Arthur's Round Table stands at the top of the town by the Westgate, and Winchester College and the Wolvesey ruins are a short walk south-east along the River Itchen. The middle section of the High Street around the Buttercross is pedestrianised, so cars stop on nearby streets such as Jewry Street or the Broadway. The railway station is on the north-western edge of the centre, about ten minutes on foot from the cathedral.
Public transport instead: South Western Railway train from Southampton Airport Parkway to Winchester — about 10 min.
