Bardonecchia is a town and ski resort at the head of the Susa Valley, close to the French border and to the Italian entrance of the Frejus road and rail tunnels. The A32 motorway (toll) runs from the Turin ring road up the whole valley and ends at the Bardonecchia exit, so the route stays on the motorway almost to the town. The final kilometres pass the railway station before reaching the centre. Traffic towards the valley can be heavy on winter weekend mornings.
The town centre stretches along Via Medail, the main shopping street, between the railway station and the old village with the parish church. The ski areas are spread around the valley: Campo Smith and Colomion close to the town, Jafferau on the other side, and Melezet in the side valley towards Valle Stretta. Free shuttles run from the station to the lifts. In summer the side valleys, including Valle Stretta and the Rochemolles valley, are used for hiking.
Public transport instead: Arriva Italia bus airport line Torino - Caselle Aeroporto from Turin Airport, Arrivals to Torino Porta Susa / Torino Porta Nuova (Piazza Carlo Felice) — about 45–50 min, €7.50 single ticket, every 15 or 30 minutes, every day; direct runs from the airport at minutes 15 and 45 on weekdays. Trenitalia (SFM Torino) train SFM3 Torino - Susa / Bardonecchia from Torino Porta Nuova to Bardonecchia, every 30 minutes on weekdays between Torino Porta Nuova and Bussoleno, 1 change. No direct public transport from Turin Airport to Bardonecchia: airport bus to Torino Porta Nuova, then the SFM3 train to Bardonecchia.
