Sauze d'Oulx is a mountain village and ski resort on a terrace above the upper Susa Valley, around 1,500 metres high, and part of the Via Lattea ski area. The drive uses the Turin ring road and the A32 Frejus motorway (toll) as far as the Oulx exit, passing Avigliana, Susa and the long climb past Exilles. From Oulx a short mountain road with hairpin bends climbs about five kilometres to the village. In the cold season winter tyres or chains are needed for the last stretch.
The old village centre, with stone houses and the parish church, sits on the slope, while newer hotels and apartments spread along the roads below and towards the lift stations. Chairlifts and the main lift area start close to the village and lead up to Sportinia, a sunny plateau with mountain huts, from where the pistes connect towards Sestriere and Sansicario. Narrow lanes in the upper old village are best done on foot. In summer the resort is used for walking and mountain biking above the Susa Valley.
