Piraeus is 49 km by road from Athens International Airport (ATH), on the far side of the city. Three public lines run there without a change, and the right one depends on the time of day and on which ferry gate you need.
Short answer: the cheapest option is the X96 express bus: €5.50, running 24 hours a day, about 90 minutes to Piraeus port. The quickest public option is metro Line 3, which goes direct to Piraeus station in about 60 minutes for €9.00. The suburban train leaves hourly and takes 65 minutes on the same ticket. By car it is 49 km, about 45 minutes without traffic. Our private transfer costs €65 per car (1–3 passengers) and €95 per van (4–8) to the gate of your ferry.

OASA's X96 links the airport with the port of Piraeus, running along Poseidonos Avenue on the coast for the final stretch. OASA gives a journey time of about 90 minutes and warns that traffic changes it. The line runs 24 hours a day, which makes it the only public option once the trains have stopped.
The single fare is €5.50 (reduced €2.70). You can also tap a contactless bank card or phone on the blue validator when you board, which charges the same €5.50. The express bus ticket is valid for one journey only. It does not cover the metro, and the €9.00 metro airport ticket is not valid on the X96.
Since the Piraeus extension opened in 2022, metro Line 3 runs from the airport through Syntagma and Monastiraki to Piraeus and Dimotiko Theatro. You no longer need to change to Line 1. The airport puts the trip to Piraeus station at about 60 minutes, and STASY lists a train on the airport section every 36 minutes. The metro station is reached on foot by the covered walkway from the terminal.
You need the airport metro ticket: €9.00 single (reduced €4.50), valid for 90 minutes, or €16.00 for a return used within 30 days. A standard €1.20 city ticket does not open the airport gates.
Hellenic Train runs a direct Airport – Athens – Piraeus suburban service. In the current timetable, trains leave the airport every hour at :32, from 05:32 to 23:32, and reach Piraeus 65 minutes later. A few late trains stop short at Tavros, so check the board. The train shares the airport station with the metro and accepts the same €9.00 airport ticket. The carriages have more room for suitcases than the metro.
The road route is about 49 km via the Attiki Odos toll motorway and takes about 45 minutes without traffic. The state flat fare from the airport covers the city centre only, so a taxi to Piraeus runs on the meter. The port stretches for several kilometres, with numbered gates from E1 to E12. Give the driver the gate printed on your ferry ticket. Inside the port, the Piraeus Port Authority runs a free bus between the gates.
A private transfer from Athens Airport to Piraeus port costs €65 per car for 1–3 passengers and €95 per van for 4–8 passengers. The price is per vehicle, fixed and paid by card when you book, with luggage included. The driver drops you at your ferry gate or at a hotel in Piraeus. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup, and a child seat costs +€10.

Athens International Airport has one main terminal building with a single arrivals hall. Your driver waits there, after baggage reclaim and the customs exit, holding a sign with your name. We track your flight and you get 60 minutes of free waiting after landing, which helps if you are cutting it fine for a ferry.
Travelling light with plenty of time before the ferry: the X96 at €5.50, the cheapest by a wide margin. Arriving in daytime and sailing from the central gates: metro Line 3, about an hour without changing. Big suitcases: the hourly suburban train, on the same €9.00 ticket. A family or a group of four or more: one van for €95 in total costs less than you might think against several €9.00 tickets plus a walk along the quay. A car also makes sense for the far gates, or when your flight lands after the last train.
