Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) sits inside the city, 11 km by road from the Baixa. The metro starts right outside the arrivals area of Terminal 1, and the drive is short outside rush hours.
Short answer: take the metro Red Line (Linha Vermelha) from the Aeroporto station by Terminal 1 arrivals: about 20 minutes into town, every 6–10 minutes from 06:30 to 01:00. A trip costs €1.92 on a reusable navegante occasional card (€0.50), or €1.72 if you tap a contactless bank card. Change at Alameda for the Baixa or at Saldanha for Marquês de Pombal. By car it is 11 km, about 20 minutes without traffic. Our private transfer costs €35 per car (1–3 passengers) and €70 per van (4–8).

The Aeroporto station of the Red Line sits next to the arrivals area of Terminal 1. The airport puts the ride into central Lisbon at about 20 minutes. The Red Line runs to São Sebastião; for the Baixa, Rossio and Cais do Sodré change at Alameda to the Green Line, and for Marquês de Pombal and Avenida da Liberdade change at Saldanha to the Yellow Line. The metro is open from 06:30 to 01:00 every day. On weekdays Red Line trains run every 6 minutes at the morning peak, every 7–8 minutes through the day and every 9–10 minutes early and late.
A single metro trip costs €1.92 (2026 fare) and is loaded onto a navegante occasional card, which costs €0.50 and can be reloaded for a year; each passenger needs their own card. Paying by tapping a contactless bank card at the gate costs €1.72. A 24-hour Carris/Metro ticket costs €7.25. Tickets are sold in the machines at the station.
The Aerobus lines 1 and 2 and Carris city buses 705, 722, 744 and 783 stop at the airport. They avoid a metro change and can be handy for hotels away from the metro, but they share the roads with the rest of the traffic, so journey times vary. Check current Aerobus times and fares with the operator before you travel.
The road route is about 11 km via Avenida Almirante Gago Coutinho and Avenida da República or the Segunda Circular, and takes about 20 minutes without traffic. Rush hours add noticeable time on the Segunda Circular. The Baixa, Chiado and Alfama have narrow cobbled streets, tram lines and resident-only blocks, so the car stops on the nearest street open to traffic.
A private transfer Lisbon Airport → city centre costs €35 per car for 1–3 passengers and €70 per van for 4–8 passengers.
