By metro

The Aeroporto station sits next to the terminal. Line E (violet) runs to Trindade, the central interchange a short walk from the Avenida dos Aliados, in about 30 minutes. Some trains continue to Campanhã, Porto's main railway station. Porto's tourist office gives operating hours of 06:00 to 01:00, and the airport says trains run every 20 or 30 minutes depending on the time and the day of the week.

The trip into the centre is a Z4 journey, which costs €2.30 in 2026. You can load it onto an Andante card at the station machines, or tap a contactless bank card on the marked validators at Aeroporto: each tap is charged as one Z4 ticket and is valid for 1 hour 15 minutes on the metro and STCP buses. If you make four or more journeys in a day, the charge is capped at €7.75. Validate every time you board.

By bus

STCP lines 601, 602 and 604 stop outside the terminal and serve different parts of Porto. The tourist office puts the ride at close to 45 minutes. Andante tickets are valid on STCP buses, and the fare depends on the zones you cross. The metro is usually quicker unless your hotel sits right on a bus route.

By taxi and by car

The taxi rank is just outside the terminal exit. Fares are metered. By road the centre is 14 km away, about 18 minutes without traffic, via the A28 and the VCI ring road. Rush hour slows the VCI. Ribeira has steep, narrow streets with restricted access, so a car stops at the nearest street open to traffic, often near São Bento or the Aliados.

What to choose

Travelling light, alone or as a couple: the metro, at €2.30 each and about 30 minutes to Trindade. It is cheaper than any car for one or two people. Landing after the last metro, at around 01:00: a taxi from the rank or a pre-booked car. A private transfer makes sense for families with children and pushchairs, for groups of four to eight sharing one van at €50, and for hotels in Ribeira, where the walk from Trindade or São Bento is steep with suitcases.

Good to know

  • Validate your Andante card or tap your bank card every time you board, including on the metro platform.
  • The bank card option works at the marked validators only, and the Aeroporto station has them.
  • Ribeira is downhill from the metro stations; with heavy bags, plan for the climb back.
  • Some line E trains run on to Campanhã, the station for trains to Lisbon and the Douro.
