Vienna Airport (VIE) lies in Schwechat, 22 km by road from the Ring. Until the end of October 2027 the S-Bahn core line through the city is closed, so the CAT runs as a bus and the S7 stops short at Wien St. Marx.
Short answer: take the Vienna Airport Bus VAB 2 to Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz on the edge of the old town: about 22 minutes, every 30 minutes, for €11.00. The CAT by bus reaches Wien Mitte in about 21 minutes, every 12–15 minutes, for €14.90. Until the end of October 2027 the CAT train and the S7 do not run into the centre because of works on the S-Bahn core line. By car it is 22 km, about 30 minutes without traffic. Our private transfer costs €65 per car (1–3 passengers) and €85 per van (4–8).

From 7 September 2026 to the end of October 2027 the S-Bahn core line (Stammstrecke) in Vienna is closed for works. ÖBB and the airport list the effects for arriving passengers. The City Airport Train runs as a rail replacement bus, CAT by bus, between the airport and Wien Mitte. The S7 only runs between the airport and Wien St. Marx, where you change to tram 18 or 71. Railjet and Intercity trains still run between the airport and Wien Hauptbahnhof, twice an hour. A Vienna core zone ticket (Kernzone) does not cover the trip to or from the airport, so buy a ticket for the service you choose.
The Vienna Airport Bus lines leave from bay 8 at the airport bus terminal. VAB 2 runs to Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz on the Danube Canal in about 22 minutes, every 30 minutes from 04:45 to 00:45. VAB 4 goes to Karlsplatz in about 26 minutes, every 30 minutes from 04:30 to 01:00. VAB 1 serves Hauptbahnhof and Westbahnhof, and VAB 5 runs to Praterstern. Both Schwedenplatz and Karlsplatz are metro hubs. A single ticket costs €11.00 and a return €20.00; children aged 6 to 14 pay €6.00 and under-6s travel free with an adult. Tickets are sold online, at the machines in the airport and by the driver.
The CAT by bus runs non-stop from bus station 0 at the Terminal 3 bus terminal to Wien Mitte/Landstraße (Marxergasse 1b) in about 21 minutes. Buses leave every 12 minutes between 07:00 and 19:00 and every 15 minutes at other times; the first leaves the airport at 06:10 and the last at 23:37. A single costs €14.90 and a return €24.90, and children under 15 travel free. Wien Mitte is on the U3 and U4 metro lines.
The taxi rank is directly in front of the arrivals hall, and there are City Transfer counters inside the hall. The airport does not publish a fixed fare to the centre. It warns against accepting unsolicited ride offers in the arrivals hall. By road the trip is 22 km on the A4 and takes about 30 minutes without traffic; the A4 is slow in the morning rush hour. Many streets in the First District are pedestrian, so a car stops at the Ring or the nearest street open to traffic.

Vienna Airport has Terminals 1, 2 and 3, linked inside the building. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall of the terminal your flight lands at, after baggage reclaim and the customs exit, holding a sign with your name. We track your flight and you get 60 minutes of free waiting after landing.
